Margaret and Jim

About

‘Margaret and Jim’ are the pseudonyms of the collaborative effort by the artists Stephanie (sticky) Hough and Cian Mc Conn. Cian Mc Conn and Stephanie Hough met each other in 2001, while attending the Crawford college of Art and Design, in Cork city Ireland. While there, they began challenging traditional methods or trends within the genre of performance which they were exposed to. They then decided to correlate ideas into the physical manifestation of “Margaret & Jim” aka “Margo & Jim”.

Performative in its nature this work resulted predominantly of photographic prints (Medium Format). Margaret and Jim sought to explore relationships and there breakdown, exposing the artifice of stereotyping, sexual aggression, gender difference & role playing and the portrayal of these through a popular cultural gaze.
